In the early hours of Monday, suspected bandits attacked a mosque in Gidan Turbe Village, Tsafe Local Government Area, abducting approximately 40 worshippers during dawn prayers. The gunmen reportedly invaded the mosque around 5:30 a.m., surrounding the worshippers before whisking them away into the nearby forest along the Gohori axis.
The incident has thrown the rural community into fear and despair, coming at a time when local leaders and some armed groups had reportedly engaged in peace efforts aimed at curbing attacks during the farming season.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls or messages.
The abduction highlights the continuing insecurity in parts of Northwest Nigeria, with rural communities remaining vulnerable to attacks despite ongoing local peace initiatives.
