A wave of grief has engulfed Kafin Tafawa, a community on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis, following the gruesome killing of a widow, Salomi Benjamin, whose lifeless body was discovered on her farm about two kilometres from her home on Saturday evening.

Mama Salomi, a mother of six, had left for her farm at around 8 a.m. but never returned. According to her third son, Simeon, the family became worried after several hours and launched a search. Their worst fears were confirmed when her body was found later that evening.

Neighbours and community members described the killing as both heartbreaking and senseless. Alex Mark, a close neighbour, commended the quick response of the Yelwa Divisional Police Officer but called on authorities to intensify investigations to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“This time, it’s not about a clash between farmers and herders,” a source within the community stressed, pointing to the mysterious nature of the crime.

As of press time, the Bauchi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident despite efforts to reach them for comment.
