Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for New York to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which runs from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28, 2025.

During the high-level gathering, Shettima is expected to present Nigeria’s national statement and engage in the UN General Debates alongside world leaders. He will also take part in key side events, including a special session on climate action, where he is billed to unveil Nigeria’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

The Vice President’s itinerary will extend beyond New York as he is scheduled to proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, for a meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank. That engagement is aimed at strengthening financial partnerships and investment prospects before he returns to Nigeria.

The Vice President’s trip is seen as an opportunity for Nigeria to assert its positions on global issues, deepen its commitment to climate responsibility, and expand its economic engagement with international partners.
