Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has restated his administration’s determination to build a globally competitive educational system, describing it as a vital tool for tackling poverty and sustaining peace.
The governor made this known at the third edition of the educational empowerment programme sponsored by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, held at the Oba Adesanoye Civic Centre in Ondo City on Wednesday. Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, the governor said the initiative reflects a shared belief that education remains the foundation of every thriving society.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized that investment in education yields the highest return for any nation, while also insisting that every child, regardless of social background, deserves an equal chance to learn and achieve their potential. He commended the Speaker for sustaining the scholarship scheme, noting its far-reaching impact on vulnerable groups and the future of his constituency.
In his remarks, Speaker Oladiji explained that the programme was borne out of his conviction that education is the strongest weapon for breaking cycles of generational poverty. He linked the initiative to the state government’s “OUR EASE” development agenda, which seeks to create a people-oriented environment where opportunities are accessible to all.
The event attracted principal officers of the Ondo State House of Assembly, members of the state executive council, party leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representatives of traditional institutions, teachers, and students from the Ondo East and Ondo West federal constituency.
