The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, has officially commissioned a new 38-bed maternity centre at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Hospital in Afaka, Kaduna State.

The facility, funded and equipped by the NDA 38 Regular Course Alumni Association, is designed to enhance healthcare delivery within the academy and nearby communities, offering services including childbirth, antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, and surgical interventions. It features modern consulting rooms, an operating theatre, and state-of-the-art medical equipment, aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes.

Mrs. Musa, who had performed the groundbreaking for the project earlier in January, described the initiative as a landmark contribution to the welfare of military officers, their families, and the host community. Retired Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir, chairman of the project committee, praised the spouses of the 38 Regular Course—dubbed the “Unique 38 Ladies”—for their steadfast support and encouraged continued commitment to the initiative.

The maternity centre was formally handed over to the NDA Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim, by the President of the 38 Regular Course Association, retired Maj.-Gen. Solomon Udounwa. The commissioning ceremony was graced by Sen. Ibrahim Hadeja, representing Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside representatives of the service chiefs, DEPOWA members, and senior serving and retired military officers.

The project underscores ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure for military personnel and surrounding communities, reinforcing the NDA’s commitment to quality medical services.
