Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians in the diaspora of robust engagement in the policies and programs of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to positioning Nigeria prominently on the global stage.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Nigerian community in the United States on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, VP Shettima encouraged Nigerians overseas to maintain faith in their homeland, noting that the country is progressing under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He commended the resilience and expertise of diaspora Nigerians, stating that their experiences are invaluable assets capable of adding significant value to national transformation.
“Continue to believe in Nigeria. Nigeria is on the right track. In the fullness of time, we will occupy our rightful place in the community of nations,” he said, highlighting key developmental achievements including rising foreign reserves, growing subnational revenues, and unprecedented infrastructural investments. He also referenced government initiatives supporting youth and students, such as NELFUND, as examples of ongoing reforms.
The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, introduced diaspora Nigerians making notable contributions abroad, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to facilitating passports, non-resident BVNs, and investment opportunities. She highlighted the government’s efforts to simplify processes and create a more investor-friendly environment.
Several diaspora Nigerians present expressed their readiness to invest in sectors such as mining, healthcare, artificial intelligence, fintech, creative industries, and agriculture, praising the government’s ease-of-doing-business initiatives. Among them were Amazon AI Engineer Adebimpe Daniels, Healthcare Specialist Saratu Garba, and entrepreneur Idoni Matthew, who welcomed the government’s attention to harnessing diaspora potential for national development.
The meeting underscored the administration’s resolve to strengthen ties with Nigerians abroad and leverage their expertise to accelerate economic growth, innovation, and national prosperity.
