The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving and strengthening the tourism sector through strategic infrastructure projects designed to reposition the state as Africa’s leading destination for leisure and cultural experiences.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, during a courtesy visit by the CEO of AKWAABA Africa Travel Market, Ambassador Ikechi Uko, to her office in Alausa, Ikeja. The Commissioner highlighted the ongoing construction of a 68-bed chalet in Badagry, an initiative expected to enhance the area’s hospitality offerings and attract both local and international tourists. She emphasized that such projects are central to repositioning Lagos as a premier tourism hub, boosting Badagry’s potential, and improving the overall image of Lagos tourism.

Benson-Awoyinka noted that despite Lagos being richly endowed with natural and cultural attractions, many residents remain unaware of these treasures. She encouraged locals to explore the state and discover its hidden gems, highlighting this year’s World Tourism Day celebration at Tarkwa Bay Beach as part of the Ministry’s renewed focus on coastal tourism and investment opportunities.

Residents welcomed the initiatives, expressing optimism that improved infrastructure and attention to coastal areas would boost local businesses, create jobs, and enhance tourism experiences. Tourism experts commended the government’s approach, noting that strategic investment in Badagry and other coastal sites could position Lagos as a leading destination for leisure, culture, and international events.

Ambassador Uko praised the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach, describing the projects as forward-looking steps that strengthen Lagos’ coastal tourism appeal. He expressed readiness to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure sustainable growth, applauding efforts to rejuvenate natural attractions for future generations.
