The Adamawa State Government has expressed deep disappointment over recent media reports falsely claiming that 600 million Naira, or in some exaggerated cases 6.8 billion Naira, was spent on a training programme in Turkey for the wives of Local Government Chairmen. Ishaya Bitrus, SSA Media to the First Lady of Adamawa State, clarified that the programme was funded by the Adamawa Chapter of ALGON at a fraction of the amounts being circulated, and not by the State Government.

The training, described as a recognized international masterclass, involved credible institutions including the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services, Ebonyi State University, and participants from Yobe State. Experts and observers noted that such a lineup of reputable organizations underscores the educational value and legitimacy of the programme.

Public reaction has largely condemned the media exaggeration, with citizens highlighting the importance of capacity-building for future leaders. Analysts opined that these false claims, if believed, could unfairly tarnish the reputation of Adamawa State’s administration, discouraging investment in leadership development and undermining public trust. Experts emphasized that transparency and accountability in governance, as demonstrated by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, are essential to maintaining confidence in public institutions and ensuring sustainable socio-political growth.

The State reiterated that investing in leadership development, even for the wives of Local Government Chairmen, strengthens the nation’s pool of future leaders and contributes to long-term national progress.
