The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commiserated with the management and staff of Arise News Channel over the tragic death of one of their news anchors, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing her passing as painful and heartbreaking.

In a statement on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister prayed for the repose of Somtochukwu’s soul and assured that the police will thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.

Wike noted that the loss was not only to the Arise News family but also to the Nigerian media and the entire nation. “I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad,” he lamented.

According to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Somtochukwu was brought to the Maitama General Hospital dead at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday. A preliminary medical report will be provided to aid police investigations, while further efforts will be made to unravel the exact circumstances of her death.

Wike urged for prayers for the staff and management of Arise News, especially the Chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, alongside Somtochukwu’s family, friends, and associates, asking God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
