The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has once again reaffirmed its strong commitment to unlocking Africa’s upstream energy potential, as the continent intensifies efforts to attract fresh investments and strengthen regional energy security.
Speaking during a high-level session tagged “Exploration Hotspots” at the ongoing African Energy Week (AEW) in Cape Town, South Africa, the company’s Executive Vice President for Upstream, Mr. Udy U. Ntia, underscored the crucial role of frontier exploration in reshaping Africa’s energy landscape.
Mr. Ntia highlighted that NNPC Ltd is taking proactive steps to expand resource development through robust exploration projects and strategic collaborations with both local and international partners. According to him, such partnerships are critical to ensuring long-term value for stakeholders while simultaneously advancing the continent’s quest for energy independence.
He further explained that Nigeria, through NNPC Ltd’s initiatives, is positioning itself not just as a leader in crude oil production but as a central hub for upstream investments across Africa. This vision, he said, will help attract new capital inflows, boost domestic capacity, and contribute to sustainable industrial transformation.
Mr. Ntia also emphasized the importance of building strategic alliances that will enhance energy security, promote sustainable growth, and accelerate the continent’s industrialization agenda. “Africa must leverage its vast natural resources in a coordinated way to meet the growing energy demand of its people and industries,” he noted.
With NNPC Ltd actively engaging in these efforts, Nigeria is expected to play a defining role in shaping Africa’s future energy map, ensuring that resource wealth translates into long-term socio-economic benefits.
As African nations look toward cleaner, reliable, and more diversified energy options, NNPC Ltd’s ongoing exploration drive reaffirms its central role in balancing sustainability with development goals.
