The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, carried out inspections of road construction projects in Abuja on Saturday, focusing on the Wuye District and the road linking Airport Road to Kuje Area Council.
In Wuye, the minister was briefed by Engr. Mohamed Eldaros, Managing Director of Arab Contractors, on the status of ongoing works. Eldaros reported that approximately 37 percent of the road network has been completed. This includes the construction of an interchange bridge and two river bridges. According to the briefing, basic infrastructure such as water supply, telecom services, and technical substations has been installed. Road marking is currently in progress.
Eldaros indicated that the project is 60 percent complete overall and that the remaining 40 percent of work is projected to take up to 20 months, depending on available funding. No information was provided on delays or challenges affecting the project timeline. The report focused mainly on physical progress and infrastructure installations, with no independent verification of work quality or adherence to timelines mentioned during the inspection.
The minister also visited the ongoing construction of the road connecting Airport Road to Kuje Area Council. The project involves expanding a two-lane carriageway into five lanes, including additional subdivisions. Eldaros stated that completion is expected by June 2026, with construction efforts scheduled to take advantage of the dry season. Funding and weather conditions were cited as factors influencing the projected timeline.
The inspections provide an update on the status of these road projects, but the report does not include information on monitoring mechanisms or independent assessments of progress. No specific setbacks or issues were highlighted during the minister’s visit, and no statements were made regarding traffic disruptions, safety concerns, or environmental considerations related to the construction.
These road projects are part of infrastructure development efforts within the FCT. The inspections supply details on ongoing construction and projected timelines but do not address the broader impacts on residents, such as commute times, road safety, or access to services. Independent review and reporting will be necessary to determine whether the projects meet projected timelines and standards.
