Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on the youths of the state to pursue excellence in their careers through hard work, resilience, consistency, and creativity, stressing that these qualities are key to making a global impact.
Governor Eno made the remarks while attending the “Okon and Friends Live in Concert”, organized by the popular Akwa Ibom-born Nollywood actor and comedian, Ime Bishop Umoh, popularly known as “Okon Lagos”, at FlairMore Event Centre, Uyo.
The Governor highlighted the importance of dedication and perseverance, noting that many young people today lack focus and often abandon their chosen paths for others, limiting their potential.
“One of the things that is not right with our young people today is that they don't pursue their paths; they want to run other people's race; they are not consistent and tenacious in their chosen career to make a huge difference,” Governor Eno said.
He commended Okon Lagos for his over 25 years of resilience and dedication in the entertainment industry, noting that his steady focus has earned him national and international recognition.
“Our youths need to develop that perseverance; they need to know what they want. Today, they start a career, tomorrow they abandon that to start another one. They want everything, and end up having nothing. Be focused and consistent to make a mark,” the Governor emphasized.
Governor Eno also announced plans to establish a creative village in Akwa Ibom State, aimed at harnessing and nurturing talent among the youth in various creative fields.
“We would continue to work with our young people, and support creativity and innovations that would positively promote and position them to accomplish more in life,” he assured.
During the event, Okon Lagos expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for recognizing and supporting his craft, jokingly remarking, “It could only take the Governor's humility to patronize my stupidity.”
The actor also presented a posthumous award to the late First Lady of the State, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, for her encouragement and unwavering support of his career. The award was received on her behalf by Lady Helen Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, who described Okon Lagos as a pride of Akwa Ibom State.
The concert featured comedy and musical performances from popular entertainers, including MC Pashun, The Senator, Koloman, Funny Bone, Dan D'Humourous, I Go Save, and Mista Xto, providing a blend of laughter and entertainment to the audience.
The occasion was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Senator Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, members of the State Executive Council, captains of industry, political figures, and numerous fans who came out to celebrate creativity and talent in the state.
The report is based on information obtained during the “Okon and Friends Live in Concert” and official statements made by Governor Umo Eno and event organizers.
