The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, has confirmed the deaths of four people in a tragic crash on the Kaduna–Abuja highway on Sunday evening.

Corps Commander Iliyasu Tijjani, the Sector Commander, stated that the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at Kakau, near Gonin Gora, on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis. The crash involved a gas-laden tanker and a Toyota Hilux, both traveling toward Kaduna. Preliminary investigations indicate that the Hilux, reportedly speeding, rammed into the tanker from behind.

“The crash was caused by excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking,” Tijjani said.

The Sector Commander revealed that five people—four males and one female—were in the Hilux at the time of the collision. The four male occupants were confirmed dead at St. Gerard Catholic Hospital, while the female passenger is receiving treatment at the FRSC Clinic, Tollgate, Kaduna.

The collision caused severe damage to the Hilux and temporarily disrupted traffic on the busy highway before emergency responders cleared the scene.

Commander Tijjani used the incident to caution motorists against speeding and reckless overtaking, noting that impatience and disregard for traffic rules are major causes of accidents along the Kaduna–Abuja highway.

“Drivers must always observe speed limits, maintain safe following distances, and avoid dangerous manoeuvres. The Corps will continue to enforce traffic regulations to safeguard lives on our roads,” he warned.

The FRSC expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment, along with other emergency agencies, to promoting safer road use across Kaduna State.

The report is based on statements issued by the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command and eyewitness accounts from the scene of the accident.
