The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced the deployment of Computer-Based Test (CBT) technology for the forthcoming civil service recruitment exercise, highlighting his administration’s commitment to digitizing the State’s public service.
During an inspection of the CBT Centre at the Idongesit Nkanta Secretariat on Friday, October 10, 2025, Governor Eno confirmed that the facility is fully operational, with the capacity to host up to 2,000 candidates daily for the digitized aptitude test. The initiative is designed to foster merit, transparency, and efficiency while curbing the influence of godfatherism in the recruitment process.
Governor Eno stressed the significance of technological competence in modern governance, stating, “The Civil Service is the engine room of governance. The world has even moved to AI now, so we need people who at least understand basic computing to the extent that they can take an exam. This system will also eliminate godfatherism. People should have confidence that they got into the service by merit—by passing the required exams.”
The Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, praised the initiative, noting that candidates would have the chance to familiarize themselves with the system prior to the actual test, scheduled to take place in ten days.
Additionally, Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, assured that the CBT Centre is fully equipped with integrated digital systems capable of conducting 2,000 tests daily, emphasizing that the facility reflects the Governor’s vision for merit-based and transparent recruitment.
The introduction of CBT technology marks a significant step in Governor Eno’s drive to modernize public service operations through digital transformation. This initiative reinforces the administration’s ARISE Agenda, focusing on governance, innovation, and inclusivity, while ensuring a more efficient and technologically empowered civil service in Akwa Ibom State.
