The Edo State Government, in partnership with the Agbo Sellers Association, has launched a dedicated Task Force to combat the sale of counterfeit herbal medicinal products within the state. The inauguration took place at the Edo State Traditional Medicine Board’s conference room along Sapele Road, Benin City, and is part of ongoing efforts to protect public health.
High Chief Abudu Ugbesia JP, Chairman of the Traditional Medicine Board, stated that the Task Force would collaborate closely with the police and other security agencies to identify and prosecute unregistered or illegal Agbo sellers. He stressed that any individual found selling fake herbal products would face strict legal action. Ugbesia noted that the 48-member Task Force would enforce compliance, monitor operations across the state, and ensure authentic sellers are properly certified with official identification.
The Chairman emphasized the importance of the Task Force acting within the law while partnering with security personnel to safeguard the public and maintain the credibility of traditional medicine in Edo State. In response, Chief Dr. Mustapha Abere, President of the Herbal Practitioners Association, expressed gratitude to the government and pledged the association’s full cooperation in supporting the initiative to guarantee that only genuine herbal products reach consumers.
