The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded a total of 1,234 complaints against its personnel nationwide in 2023, according to the latest report by the Force’s Complaint Response Unit. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos State accounted for the highest number of grievances.

The report highlights ongoing public concerns regarding police conduct, including allegations of abuse of power, misconduct, and dereliction of duty. Authorities say the Complaint Response Unit is committed to investigating each case and ensuring accountability within the force.

Police officials emphasized that the data reflects both the transparency measures in place and the growing awareness among citizens about their rights to report misconduct. They also urged members of the public to continue using official channels to lodge complaints and assist in improving policing standards across the country.

Analysts note that while the figures indicate challenges in police-community relations, the existence of a structured complaint system demonstrates steps toward greater accountability and reform in the NPF.
