Popular cleric Chukwuemeka Odumeje has criticized fellow men of God for remaining silent on issues of governance and national crises, saying many religious leaders appear more focused on business than on speaking truth to power.

In a recent statement, Odumeje argued that contemporary Christians are living in fear, which has hindered them from holding leaders accountable. He stressed that according to biblical teachings, men of God have always confronted rulers when justice and morality were at stake.

“Christians of these days are the ones living in fear. That’s why when you tell them to call out bad governance, they keep quiet. It shows many are only on the altar for business. As far as the Bible is concerned, men of God have always confronted leaders,” Odumeje said.

Observers say his remarks highlight a growing frustration among religious leaders and citizens over perceived inaction by church authorities in addressing political and social challenges in Nigeria. Odumeje’s comments are likely to spark discussions on the role of religion in advocacy and civic engagement.
