A Nigerian national, Chiemka Okoronta, has been sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Bradford earlier this year.

The incident occurred on 25 March 2025, when both the victim and the defendant were stranded due to an unexpectedly cancelled night bus service. Court proceedings revealed that Okoronta lured the teenager to his residence, where the assault took place.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the attack was premeditated. The victim bravely reported the incident immediately, leading to Okoronta’s arrest and subsequent conviction.

Presiding Judge Sophie McKone described the defendant as a “dangerous offender” and emphasized the calculated nature of his actions. Okoronta was sentenced to prison, with a three-year extended licence, and is required to register as a sexual offender for life. Following his sentence, he is expected to be deported to Nigeria.

Detective Constable Sue Sutcliffe of West Yorkshire Police praised the victim for her courage in coming forward and encouraged anyone affected by sexual offences to report them, stressing that timely action is essential for justice.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting in protecting vulnerable individuals from abuse.
