The Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lere Olayinka, has alleged that the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd), was a victim of a land scam involving plots originally reserved for park and recreation purposes in Abuja.

Olayinka, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that Gambo was duped by individuals who illegally sold the land to him and other unsuspecting buyers. He said the former naval chief should channel his energy toward pursuing those who fraudulently sold the land, rather than blaming officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) who were enforcing development regulations.

According to him, “He was duped by someone who sold the land to him and other people.” Olayinka further advised that, “He needs to use his Military Might against the person who sold land meant for PARK and RECREATION to him to build DUPLEXES, not FCTA officials carrying out their lawful duties.”

He reiterated that the FCTA’s ongoing demolition and enforcement exercises were aimed at restoring Abuja’s master plan and ensuring that lands meant for public use are not illegally converted for private residential development.
