The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and kidnapper after operatives discovered a fabricated Beretta pistol ingeniously concealed inside a loaf of bread during a routine stop-and-search operation in Asaba.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on 6th November 2025 at about 8:45 a.m., when men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were on patrol duty at Koka Roundabout, Asaba. The operatives reportedly intercepted a young man whose suspicious behaviour prompted a thorough search.
During the search, officers made a shocking discovery—a fabricated Beretta pistol carefully hidden inside a loaf of bread.
Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, a resident of Ogbeowele Quarters, behind General Hospital, Asaba. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the recovered weapon was secured as an exhibit.
Investigations, according to police sources, are ongoing to determine the suspect’s possible links to incidents of armed robbery and kidnapping within Asaba metropolis and neighbouring communities.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the discovery as evidence of the Command’s sustained intelligence-driven approach to crime prevention.
“The discovery is proof of the Command’s sustained intelligence-driven operations,” CP Olufemi said.
“The Command remains resolute to identify, arrest, and prosecute criminal elements regardless of their tactics.”
The Police Commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies, assuring that such reports would be treated confidentially.
“Residents are urged to remain vigilant and provide credible information. All reports will be treated confidentially,” he added.
Olufemi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Delta State.
“The Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Delta State,” the CP stated.
The arrest further underscores the Command’s proactive stance against crime and its continuous efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
