Communities in Makera, Dogon Ruwa, and surrounding villages in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State have raised serious concerns over renewed abuses by armed groups, despite a previously brokered peace deal.
Residents report that roaming cattle linked to the armed groups have destroyed farmlands, putting their livelihoods at risk. In addition, locals say travelers in nearby forests continue to face attacks, while work tools have been seized without compensation. Some residents also describe the imposition of degrading rules within the communities.
Community leaders are now appealing to the authorities who facilitated the peace agreement to intervene, warning that trust is eroding and the fragile peace is at risk of collapse. “The current situation is becoming unbearable and requires immediate action,” one resident said, highlighting the urgency of the crisis.
The renewed abuses underscore the challenges of enforcing local peace deals and protecting vulnerable communities in northern Nigeria.
