The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has expelled 365 students enrolled in various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes for presenting fake National Diploma results and forged academic transcripts to gain admission. The mass expulsion followed a comprehensive verification exercise that scrutinised credentials submitted during the admission and registration processes, exposing what the institution described as a large-scale academic fraud. The polytechnic’s Rector, Dr. Koye Jolaoso, said the decisive action reflects the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, promoting excellence, and repositioning the 47-year-old institution as a model of transparency, credibility, and professionalism in tertiary education. He warned prospective applicants against the use of fake academic credentials, stressing that such actions would attract severe consequences and that the polytechnic will continue to deploy stringent verification mechanisms to ensure only qualified candidates are admitted.

The verification exercise cut across all schools in the polytechnic, with the School of Communication and Information Technology recording the highest number of affected students at 156. The School of Business and Management Studies followed with 117 expulsions, while the School of Science and Technology had 54, the School of Engineering had 36, and the School of Environmental Studies had 2 students expelled. The statement signed by the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Yemi Ajibola, emphasised that the verification process was thorough and covered all documents submitted during admission and registration, leaving no room for fraudulent credentials to slip through. The polytechnic’s management has made it clear that this mass expulsion is part of an ongoing crackdown on academic fraud, and that the verification process will be continuous to detect and punish any future attempts to gain admission through fraudulent means.

The institution has cautioned prospective applicants and admission seekers to shun the use of fake academic credentials, as the school will not hesitate to wield the big stick on anyone caught in the act. This decisive action sends a strong signal to would-be fraudsters that MAPOLY is serious about upholding academic integrity and will not tolerate any form of academic misconduct. The management reiterated that the integrity of MAPOLY’s academic process cannot be compromised and that the institution will continue to deploy stringent verification mechanisms to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted. With this development, the polytechnic aims to restore public confidence in its admission standards and send a clear warning that academic fraud will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
