The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended a serving member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Usman Kamfani (also known as Ibrahim Usman Auyo), and six other party officials over allegations of anti-party activities. The suspension, which took effect on May 31, 2026, was announced in a statement on Monday, June 1, 2026, by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bashir Kundu. It followed a viral video showing the lawmaker receiving a large crowd of supporters in Auyo after he lost the APC ticket for the 2027 general election.

Kamfani, who represents the Auyo/Hadejia/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency, was defeated in the party’s House of Representatives primary held on May 16, 2026. According to the results announced by the APC, Aliyu Usaini Jabo won the ticket for the constituency, which was one of the four federal constituencies where direct primaries were conducted. The remaining seven of the 11 federal constituencies in Jigawa State produced candidates through consensus arrangements. In the video that triggered the disciplinary action, Kamfani’s supporters were allegedly heard chanting slogans against the party leadership and threatening to work against the APC in future elections.

The party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) acted on formal complaints from “concerned and loyal party members” regarding the alleged involvement of the suspended individuals in anti-party activities during an event held on May 26, 2026, in Auyo Town, Auyo Local Government Area. The APC accused the affected members of engaging in actions capable of bringing the party into disrepute, undermining its authority, promoting division among members, and acting in ways prejudicial to the interests of the party. According to the APC, the alleged actions, if proven, constitute violations of Article 21.2(ii), (vi), (vii), and (viii) of the party’s constitution, which prohibit disloyalty, anti-party conduct, conduct likely to embarrass the party, and acts capable of causing discord among members.

Those suspended alongside Kamfani are Aisha Adamu Auyo (alias Kande), the State Deputy Women Leader; Yargabi Babannan Auyo, Auyo Ward Women Leader; Musa Idris Zabarau, Auyo Ward Chairman; Ibrahim Ayama, Auyo Local Government Vice Chairman; Saje Hadiyau, Local Government Financial Secretary; and Sani Abdullahi Hadiyau, Deputy Ward Chairman. As part of the suspension, the affected individuals have been barred from representing themselves as officers, agents, or representatives of the party in any capacity. They are also prohibited from attending or participating in party meetings, activities, or functions in any official capacity, exercising powers or privileges attached to their offices, and taking any action capable of influencing or interfering with the disciplinary process.

The party’s State Chairman, Ahmad Garba MK, assured the suspended members that they would be given a fair hearing before the APC Jigawa State Disciplinary Committee. “They will be afforded a fair hearing and an opportunity to defend themselves in accordance with the party’s constitution and the principles of natural justice,” the statement said. The suspension will remain in force pending the outcome of the investigation by the disciplinary committee.

In a related development, Governor Umar Namadi, on the same day, ordered the indefinite suspension of four of his political aides: Abbas Makama, Senior Special Assistant on Flood Control I; Salisu Muhammad (alias Rosy Auyo), Special Assistant on Entrepreneurship; Ibrahim Yunusa, Special Assistant on Basic Education Monitoring III; and Umar Abdulkadir (alias Alhaji Bullet Auyo), Special Assistant on Cluster Farming. A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, did not state the reason for the action, but findings suggest the suspension may be connected to alleged anti-party activities.

As of the time of filing this report, Kamfani could not be reached for comment, as calls to his telephone line went unanswered.
