The Commissioner of Police in , Olugbenga Adepoju, has removed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oyigbo Police Division in Oyigbo Local Government Area over allegations of extortion and abuse of office.
The decision was taken on June 22, 2026, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following internal disciplinary review and complaints alleging misconduct involving the affected officer, according to police authorities familiar with the development.
Police sources said the DPO was relieved of his duties after preliminary findings linked him to allegations of extortion from members of the public and abuse of official authority while overseeing operations within the Oyigbo division.
The Rivers State Police Command stated that the action is part of ongoing efforts to enforce discipline within the force and ensure that officers operate strictly within the bounds of professional conduct and ethical standards.
Authorities noted that the case has been referred for further administrative investigation, which will determine whether additional disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with police regulations.
The command also reiterated its commitment to maintaining public trust and ensuring accountability among personnel, emphasizing that acts of misconduct will not be tolerated regardless of rank or position.
Oyigbo Local Government Area has in recent times remained a sensitive operational zone within Rivers State, prompting heightened security oversight and internal monitoring of field officers deployed in the area.
