Four nurses, summoned by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos, over a dispute involving Abby’s Paediatric Care, have accused the hospital of poor staff welfare, delayed salaries, underpayment, and interference with patient care, while commending police officers for conducting the investigation professionally.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, by the Elegant Nurses Forum. The group said the nurses—Tayo-Etimiri Omosekemi, Ajani Adedoyin, Ajiku Oluwakemisola, and Anyanwu Prince—honoured the police invitation with legal representation provided by the Take-It-Back Movement. However, the matter could not proceed because representatives of Abby’s Paediatric Care and the hospital’s legal counsel failed to appear before investigators at the FCID headquarters in Alagbon. The police subsequently directed all parties to return next Tuesday for the continuation of the investigation.
The Elegant Nurses Forum said the nurses were treated with dignity throughout their visit to the police facility. "We wish to state clearly that, according to the affected Nurses, the officers at FCID conducted themselves professionally throughout the process," the statement read. "They reported that they were treated with respect and dignity, and that there was no form of intimidation, harassment or maltreatment while at the police facility."
The forum commended the officers for allowing due process to take its course while praising the nurses for their courage in pursuing the matter. According to the statement, the nurses used the opportunity to restate allegations they had previously made against the hospital's management. They alleged that employees were subjected to poor welfare conditions, persistent underpayment, irregular salary payments, disrespect in the workplace, and an unhealthy working environment.
The nurses also raised concerns about what they described as alleged quackery and interference with professional clinical duties. According to them, the hospital's Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Ojelabi Kehinde Imoleoluwa Hannah — whom they claimed is not a licensed medical practitioner but a relative of the hospital owner — allegedly interrupted nurses while they were attending to patients and providing health education, thereby interfering with their professional responsibilities.
Describing the allegations as serious, the Elegant Nurses Forum called on the Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) to immediately inspect and investigate Abby's Paediatric Care, including its management structure, staffing, clinical practices, and compliance with healthcare regulations. The group urged the agency to impose appropriate sanctions, including the temporary closure of the hospital if the allegations are substantiated and patient safety is found to be at risk.
The forum also called on the Nigerian Association of Nurses and Midwives to investigate the complaints affecting members of the nursing profession, while urging the Nigerian Medical Association to examine issues relating to medical ethics and patient safety arising from the allegations. The group further appealed to labour unions, civil society organisations, and relevant labour authorities to investigate allegations of delayed salaries, poor welfare, and workplace exploitation, insisting that healthcare workers should never face intimidation for raising concerns about conditions that could endanger patients.
It maintained that nurses must be allowed to carry out their professional duties without interference from individuals who are not licensed healthcare practitioners. The group also thanked the Lagos chapter of the Take-It-Back Movement and its legal team, led by Barrister Bolaji, for providing legal representation and transport support to the affected nurses during the police process. It vowed to continue monitoring the investigation until what it described as a just and fair resolution is achieved.
