The High Court in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, has adjourned the murder trial of a 57-year-old farmer, Saturday Ojiewa, to September 23, 2026, after hearing and cross-examining witnesses. The adjournment has heightened anxiety among the victim's family and residents of Uhomebho Community, who are eager to see the case concluded and those responsible held accountable.

Ojiewa, a farmer from Uhomebho Community, was allegedly murdered on his farm in February 2026. His body was discovered buried in a shallow grave after concerned community members launched a search when he failed to return home. A grieving relative recounted the grim discovery: "On February 9, I was called that he was killed on the farm. The community residents could only trace his body after searching for many hours because he failed to return home. A trace of blood led them to where they buried him in a shallow grave." The case has generated outrage and fear within the predominantly agrarian community, where residents say the memory of Ojiewa's death remains fresh and painful.

The suspect, identified as Timothy Ukpebor, is currently in police custody. However, family members and residents have expressed concerns that justice could be compromised due to the alleged influence and financial power of the accused. There have also been allegations that attempts are being made to secure the release of the man accused of sponsoring the brutal killing.

A family source told SaharaReporters that the court adjourned the case after cross-examining the witnesses present. The latest adjournment has left family members frustrated, with each delay prolonging their grief and raising fresh concerns about whether justice will be delivered within a reasonable time. The proceedings at the High Court in Ubiaja have suffered repeated adjournments since February, heightening frustration among residents and the victim's family.

Residents have expressed hope that the next hearing, scheduled for September 23, will bring meaningful progress in the trial and move the family closer to securing justice for Ojiewa's killing.
