The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for transforming its operations through strategic reforms and extensive digitisation initiatives, describing the achievements as evidence of visionary leadership and an unwavering commitment to service excellence, while also seeking to establish a stronger partnership to enhance professionalism, ethical standards, and effective communication across all operational levels of the Corps.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the President and Chairman of Council of the NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, who led a high-powered delegation to the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, at the Corps National Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Details of the visit were contained in a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Deputy Corps Commander Osondu Ohaeri, and made available to journalists.

Speaking during the visit, Neliaku lauded the Corps Marshal for driving a remarkable institutional transformation, with particular emphasis on the milestones achieved in the digitisation of the Corps' operations. He praised the FRSC's digital transformation, noting that technological advancements had significantly improved operational efficiency, service delivery, and institutional effectiveness, while also strengthening public confidence and enhancing the Corps' reputation as a modern and responsive government institution. Neliaku applauded Mohammed for championing strategic initiatives that have repositioned the Corps and reinforced its capacity to deliver safer road transport services nationwide. “The achievements recorded by the Corps clearly demonstrate visionary leadership, innovation and commitment to service excellence,” Neliaku said. He added that sustained reforms had laid a solid foundation for stronger institutional performance and improved engagement with the public.

The NIPR president reaffirmed the institute's commitment to supporting the FRSC through professional training, executive development, and capacity-building programmes, stating that the proposed partnership would strengthen the Corps' transformation agenda while promoting professionalism, ethical standards, and effective communication across all operational levels. The partnership is expected to further reinforce the Corps Marshal's commitment to institutional excellence, workforce development, and the continuous entrenchment of professionalism as the foundation of effective service delivery, while strengthening the FRSC's capacity to deliver on its statutory mandate.

Responding, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed gratitude to the NIPR leadership for recognising the Corps' progress and expressing confidence in its reform initiatives. He said professionalism, continuous learning, and strategic communication remained central to his administration's vision of building a more responsive, efficient, and globally respected road safety institution. “Professionalism, continuous learning and strategic communication remain fundamental pillars of our vision for a more responsive and globally respected road safety institution,” Mohammed said. The Corps Marshal described the proposed collaboration as a strategic investment in human capital and institutional development that would equip FRSC personnel with the knowledge, skills, and ethical orientation required to address emerging challenges in public service effectively. He noted that strengthening staff competencies would enhance operational excellence and ensure the Corps remained responsive to changing national and global expectations.

At the end of the meeting, both organisations agreed to establish a strategic framework for sustained collaboration on mutually beneficial initiatives, with a focus on staff training, professional certification, knowledge exchange, executive development, and other programmes aimed at deepening institutional excellence and advancing effective public service delivery.

The FRSC has, in recent years, undergone a significant digital transformation under Mohammed's leadership, earning recognition including the 2024 SERVICOM Award for the Most Innovative Parastatal, the Kofi Annan Road Safety Award for digital reforms, and a top ranking among military and paramilitary institutions in a recent performance evaluation. The Corps has also announced plans to promote 10,000 officers and deploy advanced digital technology to further enhance its road safety operations. The new partnership with the NIPR is expected to consolidate these gains by equipping personnel with the professional competencies required to sustain the momentum of the Corps' transformation agenda.
