Senator has appealed to the Nigerian military and other security agencies to intensify operations in Borno South Senatorial District, revealing that more than 150 residents, including children, students and travellers, are still being held captive by terrorists across several communities.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, July 10, 2026, Ndume said the appeal followed the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. He urged security agencies to extend similar efforts to communities in southern Borno where many victims remain in captivity.

According to the senator, 42 residents of Mussa community are still being held by terrorists, while more than 30 people abducted from Lassa, including students who were preparing for the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations, have yet to be rescued.

Ndume also disclosed that over 50 residents from Gwoza remain in captivity. In addition, he said several travellers abducted along the Buratai road since March 3 are still being held by their captors.

While commending the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for rescuing the abducted Oyo schoolchildren and teachers, Ndume described the operation as proof that Nigerian security forces are capable of achieving greater success when adequately supported.

He called on the Federal Government to sustain efforts aimed at strengthening the nation's security architecture by providing personnel with improved training, modern equipment, sufficient ammunition and better welfare to boost their effectiveness in combating terrorism and kidnapping.

The senator further urged security agencies to intensify rescue operations across Borno State to secure the release of all those still in captivity and restore confidence among affected communities.
