A Lagos Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Nigerian content creator at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to charges arising from a viral social media video in which he allegedly threatened while commenting on the 2027 presidential election.

The order was made on Friday, July 10, 2026, by Magistrate M.F. Onamusi of a Lagos Magistrate Court after the Lagos State Government arraigned DJ Chicken on a three-count charge bordering on alleged death threats, cybercrime and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

According to the prosecution, the defendant posted a video on his social media platforms last week containing statements allegedly threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu. Prosecutors argued that the video violated Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, as well as provisions of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The prosecution further alleged that DJ Chicken transmitted a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015. A third count accused him of engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

The case followed widespread public criticism over the viral video. In a subsequent video, DJ Chicken retracted the remarks, stating they were intended as a joke to attract attention and not as a genuine threat. Despite the apology and retraction, the Lagos State Government proceeded with the prosecution.

Magistrate Onamusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. The court ruled that one surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State.

The court also directed that both sureties must provide three years' tax clearance certificates, Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) identification, National Identification Numbers (NIN), and recent utility bills. In addition, one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, the court ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
