The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected drug dealers and recovered a large cache of illicit substances during a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts and drug joints in Jakusko Local Government Area, in what the command described as a major breakthrough in its ongoing war against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.

The operation, which was carried out on Friday, July 10, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., targeted drug joints at Buduwa Market in Jakusko LGA, following intelligence reports that the area had become a hub for the sale, consumption, and abuse of illicit drugs and other intoxicating substances. According to a statement issued on Saturday, July 11, 2026, by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the raid was led by the Area Commander, Gashua, and involved personnel from Bade ‘A’ Division, Bade ‘B’ Division, Area Command Gashua, Garin Alkali Division, Yusufari Division, and Jakusko Division, in collaboration with members of the Peace Group Vigilante.

The operation led to the arrest of 14 suspects, who were allegedly caught in the act of selling, consuming, and abusing prohibited drugs. The suspects were identified as Hamisu Umar, 20; Usman Wakili, 25; Aliyu Mohammed, 20; Hassan Ali, 35; Dudduwa Dorsha, 27; Adamu Hussaini, 27; Sale Adamu, 27; Adamu Umaru, 25; Babaru Hassan, 28; Dangi Maikudi, 22; Hassan Audu, 29; Abubakar Usman, 29; Ahmadu Waziri, 23; and Daudu Yusuf, 20.

Items recovered from the suspects included over 300 sachets and packages of various illicit drugs, comprising Tramadol, Vega tablets, Indian hemp (cannabis), and other prohibited and controlled substances. The seizure underscores the scale of the drug trade in the area and the command's determination to dismantle the narcotics network operating within the state.

SP Abdulkarim confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects are cooperating with authorities, providing useful information that could facilitate the arrest of other members of the criminal network. He stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders across the state to intensify raids on identified criminal hideouts and black spots as part of the command's zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse. CP Jibrin reiterated that drug trafficking and substance abuse remain major catalysts for violent crime and other criminal activities, warning that the command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of illicit drugs. He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information to enhance the fight against crime and improve security across Yobe State.

The raid is the latest in a series of enforcement actions by the Yobe State Police Command, which has been intensifying its campaign against drug-related crimes in the state. In recent months, the command has carried out several operations targeting drug joints and criminal hideouts, resulting in the arrest of dozens of suspects and the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances. The command's sustained efforts have been widely praised by residents and stakeholders, who have called for even more proactive measures to address the growing menace of drug abuse among young people in the state.

The arrest of the 14 suspects and the recovery of over 300 sachets of illicit drugs is a significant achievement in the command's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. The operation not only disrupts the supply chain of illicit drugs in Jakusko LGA but also sends a strong message to drug dealers and abusers that the police will not tolerate such criminal activities. As investigations continue, the command has assured the public that it will leave no stone unturned in its quest to bring all those involved in the illegal drug trade to justice.
