The people of Kaura Namoda town in Zamfara State woke up to another morning of grief and fear on Monday, 13 July 2026, after armed bandits stormed an area behind Ummaru Mamuda Primary School late on Sunday night, 12 July 2026, and abducted three residents, including a man who had been kidnapped just months earlier. The victims have been identified as Alhaji Danladi, popularly known as Burare; Malam Nasiru, the son of Alhaji Altune; and the wife of Aminu Tela. According to local sources, the gunmen invaded the neighbourhood under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically to spread panic before moving from house to house in search of their targets. The attack has once again exposed the growing vulnerability of communities in Kaura Namoda, one of Zamfara State's most terrorised towns.
What makes this latest abduction particularly heartbreaking is the cruel repetition of trauma visited upon one family. Alhaji Danladi, a respected member of the community, was previously abducted while returning from a business trip to Kano. He was eventually released, presumably after a ransom was paid, but the relief of his return has now been shattered as he is dragged back into captivity. His family, who had barely begun to recover from the ordeal, are now reliving the same nightmare all over again. The exact number of abductees remains unclear as of the time of this report, but eyewitnesses confirmed that at least three people were taken, with fears that more may have been kidnapped in the chaos.
The attack on Kaura Namoda is the latest in a relentless wave of violence that has turned the town into a theatre of terror. Kaura Namoda, the second-largest city in Zamfara State, has been under siege for months, with bandits launching near-daily raids on communities, schools, and travellers. In June 2026, suspected bandits abducted at least seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, from their off-campus residence. In the same month, a resident decried the lack of rescue operations, pointing to the well-known bandit camps around Dajin Yamma where victims are often held. Despite repeated military operations, the terrorists appear to have established a permanent presence in the area, moving freely and striking with impunity.
Residents have grown increasingly desperate as the attacks have continued unabated. One community member who spoke to a local journalist recounted the incident, stating that the attackers "stormed the area, shooting sporadically, and went from house to house." The gunmen, who arrived in large numbers, reportedly knew exactly which houses to target, suggesting the use of informants. The abductions happened just days after troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded successes in the state, including the neutralisation of a notorious bandit commander, Alhaji Tukur, in Dogon Kade. However, those successes have not translated into safety for the residents of Kaura Namoda, who continue to live in constant fear.
The abduction of Alhaji Danladi for a second time has sparked outrage and deepened the sense of despair among residents. Many are now questioning whether any ransom payments or military operations can ever bring lasting peace to their community. "How long will the people of Kaura Namoda continue to live like this?" one resident lamented. The question echoes across the town, where families are forced to make impossible choices — whether to pay ransoms that only fuel the bandits' economy, or to wait in agonising uncertainty for news of their loved ones. For the family of Alhaji Danladi, the nightmare has returned, and with it, the painful reminder that in Kaura Namoda, no one is truly safe.
