The Northern Regional Police Command in Ghana has arrested two Nigerian nationals, Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, in connection with the brutal murder of their compatriot, 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, following a dispute over proceeds from internet fraud activities, according to multiple reports from Ghanaian media outlets published on 12 and 13 July 2026.

The victim's body was discovered on Saturday, 11 July 2026, in his bedroom at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, the capital of Ghana's Northern Region. Police officers who responded to the scene found the deceased with a deep cut wound to the forehead and a towel stuffed into his mouth. His bedroom had also been ransacked. Investigators recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other items for forensic examination. The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed the victim dead. It has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

The suspects, Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were apprehended on the same day at Tatale on the Ghana-Togo border while allegedly attempting to flee into neighbouring Togo. According to a police statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian national identified as Godwin Nwafor. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted that they conspired to kill the victim following a dispute over the division of proceeds from their internet fraud activities.

A search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the victim's room, including mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing, and personal documents. The suspects remain in police custody and were expected to appear before a court in Tamale on Monday, 13 July 2026. The police have confirmed that forensic examinations are ongoing, including efforts to retrieve relevant CCTV footage from the area, and have appealed to the public to volunteer credible information that could assist with the investigation.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage and fresh concerns over the growing involvement of Nigerian nationals in cybercrime-related disputes abroad, as well as the violent consequences that sometimes arise from such activities. As the investigation continues, the Ghana Police Service has assured that all those found to have played a role in the crime would be brought to justice.
