The embattled self-acclaimed Director-General of the disowned Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, has alleged that his life is in imminent danger, claiming he has received credible intelligence indicating he is being targeted for elimination. Speaking in a telephone interview on Channels Television's 'Politics Today' on Monday, 13 July 2026, Adeyemi insisted he is not in hiding but has withdrawn from public appearances because of security concerns. He maintained that he is ready to show his face in public but fears for his life, adding that he has received verified, highly reliable intelligence that his life is at risk.

Adeyemi also rejected the Federal Government's decision to allow the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the scandal, arguing that the anti-graft agency could not conduct an impartial investigation because it is part of the government. He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent, multi-stakeholder investigative panel that would include civil society organisations, the Nigerian Bar Association, independent media representatives, human rights observers, diplomatic observers from the UN, US, UK, EU, ECOWAS and the African Union, as well as the ICPC and EFCC as technical partners. He said a system cannot credibly investigate itself when its own key actors are central to the discourse, and that if the investigation is to command the absolute trust of the Nigerian public and the international community, it must transcend standard bureaucratic boundaries.

During the interview, Adeyemi also disclosed that he borrowed the N400 million he claimed was paid through a proxy to secure his appointment, and that his lenders had now reported him to the EFCC. He added that he is not a con artist and is ready to bear the consequences of the law should he be found culpable. Meanwhile, a US lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has announced plans to assist Adeyemi in seeking political asylum in the United States and obtaining whistleblower protection, citing threats to his safety. The firm's representative, Dr Von Batten, said Adeyemi informed him that he and members of his family had received threats and were currently in hiding.

Despite the Presidency's repeated description of the PFIPC as a fictitious agency, a search of the Budget Office's published 2026 Appropriation Bill lists an entity described as "Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council" with code 0111062001 and a total allocation of ₦1.303 billion: ₦802.98 million for personnel, ₦200 million for overhead, and ₦300 million for capital expenditure. The controversy has sparked calls from opposition parties and political figures for an independent investigation into how the agency secured the allocation despite the Presidency maintaining that it had no legal existence. Adeyemi, who is facing an eight-count charge of forgery and impersonation before the Federal High Court in Abuja, also cited the reported death of Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola, whom he described as a central intermediary in the matter, in a fire incident at Kachi Hotel in Utako, Abuja. He claimed that after the fire, unidentified armed actors invaded the hotel and demolished the entire structure without the involvement of any federal regulatory agency, effectively erasing vital physical evidence. He said his concerns are deeply validated by the highly alarming events surrounding Mr Tanimola, and that this is not an unfounded fear. He also alleged that unidentified young men had visited his aged parents' residence about 30 times within three days, often at odd hours, claiming they were searching for an individual identified as "Adebayo," and questioned why authorities had not formally invited him if they genuinely intended to question him, accusing them of trying to coerce him.

The PFIPC has been at the centre of a major controversy after the Presidency described it as a fictitious agency and accused Adeyemi of forging official documents to present himself as its Director-General. The allegations remain under investigation, while the Presidency has continued to reject Adeyemi's claims.
