The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, has firmly rejected allegations that its State Commandant, Geraldine Abetianbe, shields personnel found wanting in the course of their duties, describing the claims as malicious, misleading and lacking in factual basis. The command also dismissed assertions that it maintains a fractured relationship with other security agencies operating in the state, insisting that there exists a symbiotic and extremely cordial working relationship between the NSCDC and all sister security agencies in Akwa Ibom.

Reacting to the allegations in a statement issued on Tuesday in Uyo, the command's Public Relations Officer, Friday Ekerete, addressed a publication by an online media platform which had alleged that the commandant was involved in shielding erring officers, refusing to distribute tech operational system packs and drones, victimising personnel and neglecting staff welfare. Ekerete stated that the command found the publication to be malicious and misleading, and provided clarifications in the interest of the public and for record purposes.

Addressing the allegation of non-cooperation with investigations, Ekerete said the publication incorrectly identified the head of the Anti-Vandal Unit. He clarified that the individual named in the report, SC Michael Asibor, is not a staff member of the NSCDC Akwa Ibom State Command, let alone the Head of Anti-Vandal. The actual Head of Anti-Vandal at the command headquarters is SC Akan Ekanem. Ekerete added that the command has always cooperated with investigations and will never shield any of its personnel found wanting.

On the allegations that the commandant refused to distribute tech operational system packs and drones, the spokesperson explained that the equipment could only be deployed after personnel had undergone the required training. He noted that the command took delivery of the tech systems and drones earlier this year, but they can only be disbursed for use after resource persons from the National Headquarters have successfully trained personnel on how to operate them, especially to enhance security operations. Ekerete stressed that due process is being followed in line with Corps policy in this regard.

The command also dismissed allegations of financial impropriety, economic sabotage and victimisation of staff who have opposing views. On the alleged financial misconduct over staff welfare scheme, Ekerete explained that the scheme in question existed before the Commandant's assumption of office in December 2025. He said the scheme was expanded to include all personnel through a unanimous decision taken at a muster parade, with deductions made from all staff including the Commandant. However, when some members kicked against it, refunds were made instantly and the scheme was abolished.

Ekerete also wondered how allegations of victimisation and appointment bias would arise, explaining that NSCDC is a federal organisation and personnel deployment reflects the federal character principle. He stressed that strategic positions like Head of Anti-Vandal, Operations, PGC, Solid Minerals, Store, and others at the State Command Headquarters are all occupied by qualified and competent Akwa Ibomites, appointed based on merit, qualifications and experience. He reiterated that there is no iota of truth in the claim that the relationship with sister security agencies is fractured.

Ekerete reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure in the state. He urged media organisations to seek clarification before publishing reports to avoid misleading the public. The command stated that it would not be distracted by attempts to create disaffection within the Corps or among security agencies.
