In a significant victory against criminal networks operating in the North-West, the Kano State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected bandit logistics supplier and recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, and other incriminating items during an intelligence-led operation in Bichi Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Mohammed Isah Haruna of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended on Saturday, July 12, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m. in Rimaye Village, Bichi LGA, following a tip-off from a vigilant resident who reported seeing a man dressed in what appeared to be military attire.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday that operatives attached to the Bichi Police Division acted swiftly on the credible intelligence, working in collaboration with members of the Rimawa community to intercept the suspect. Upon searching the suspect's bag, police recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 79 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a National Identity Card, a National Identification Number slip, a Permanent Voter's Card, four Automated Teller Machine cards, and a pair of desert boots. The total number of live ammunition recovered from the suspect stood at 109 rounds.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed that he had travelled to the area specifically to deliver the recovered items to bandits operating in nearby forests and bushes. The police said the suspect remains in custody while discreet investigations have commenced to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network. The Command added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents of the Rimawa community for their vigilance and prompt dissemination of information, describing the arrest as a demonstration of the effectiveness of community policing. "This arrest underscores the importance of community partnership in policing. We appreciate the Rimawa Community and all good people of Kano for their support. Security is a collective responsibility," Bakori was quoted as saying. The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command's commitment to intelligence-led and community-based policing across the state's 44 local government areas, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.

The arrest comes amid sustained efforts by security agencies to curb banditry and the proliferation of illegal firearms across northern Nigeria through intelligence-led operations and stronger community policing initiatives. Authorities have repeatedly stressed that public cooperation remains vital to disrupting criminal networks and improving security across the region. The successful interception of this logistics supply chain has disrupted a dangerous pipeline that could have facilitated further attacks on communities in Kano, Katsina, and neighbouring states. The Kano State Police Command has urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.
