The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, announced the release of the results on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Abuja, following the formal presentation of the examination report by the Registrar of the National Examinations Council, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.
According to the Minister, a total of 70,357 candidates registered for the highly competitive examination, while 66,950 successfully sat for the test conducted on Saturday, June 6, 2026, across Nigeria as well as designated centres in the Republic of Benin and Togo. A total of 3,407 candidates were recorded as absent. Professor Ahmad disclosed that while 10 candidates achieved the highest score of 202 marks, 82 candidates recorded the lowest score of one mark, highlighting a wide performance gap among participants.
The Minister described the National Common Entrance Examination as the primary gateway for admission into Junior Secondary School One in the Federal Government Colleges, noting that it remains one of the country's most competitive entrance examinations. She emphasised that the Unity Colleges continue to play a significant role in fostering national integration and unity by bringing together students from diverse ethnic, religious and geographical backgrounds, which has sustained their popularity among parents across the country.
Professor Ahmad also announced the release of the results of the entrance examination into the Federal Government Academy, Suleja, the country's only gifted school. She disclosed that 2,071 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,876 sat for the test and 195 were absent. According to the Minister, the highest score recorded for admission into the academy was 187 marks, representing 89.05 per cent of the total obtainable score, while the lowest score was four marks.
The Minister reaffirmed that the admission guidelines into the Federal Government Colleges remain unchanged. She explained that admissions would continue to be based on 60 per cent merit, 30 per cent equality of states and 10 per cent exigency, and directed the Senior Secondary Education Department to conclude the admission exercise promptly and in strict compliance with the approved guidelines. Professor Ahmad assured Nigerian parents that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening the nation's Unity Colleges through sustained investments in infrastructure, improved feeding programmes and enhanced teacher quality.
The release of the results signals the commencement of the admission process into the Federal Government Colleges for the 2026/2027 academic session, with successful candidates to be admitted in line with the Federal Government's approved admission guidelines. The Minister responded to questions from journalists, explaining that the NCEE is open to Nigerian children between the ages of 10 and 12 years. She added that outstanding candidates would be considered for admission into the Federal Government Academy, Suleja.
