The convictions were delivered by Magistrate Court 3, Asaba, which sentenced each of the defendants to three years' imprisonment at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre. The court's decision followed the suspects' guilty pleas and the presentation of evidence by the prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the diligent investigation and successful prosecution of the case, noting that the conviction sends a clear message that vandalism of public assets, theft, and drug-related offences will be met with the full weight of the law. He reaffirmed the command's resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations to safeguard public property and maintain law and order across the state. The convictions were also seen as a significant victory in the state's ongoing fight against vandalism and drug abuse, which have been identified as major contributors to insecurity and social disorder in the region.
The Delta State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to protecting critical public infrastructure and enforcing the law. The convictions are expected to serve as a deterrent to others who may be tempted to engage in similar criminal activities.
