Troops of the Nigerian Army's 17 Brigade have rescued nine kidnap victims who escaped from a terrorist hideout in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State after their captors allegedly fell asleep, security analyst Zagazola Makama has reported. The victims were intercepted at approximately 8:30 a.m. on July 15, 2026, by troops conducting a foot patrol at Anguwan Doka in Faskari LGA.
According to the report, the rescued victims comprise three women, four men and two young children. During preliminary interrogation, the victims told troops they were abducted by suspected armed terrorists along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. They explained that they seized the opportunity to flee after the guards at the terrorists' enclave fell asleep, trekking through the bush until they encountered the patrol team.
The victims identified themselves as indigenes of Kuchere village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Makama added that the military has taken them into protective custody pending their handover to the appropriate authorities for reunification with their families.
The operation highlights the ongoing security challenges in the North-West region, where terrorist groups continue to abduct civilians for ransom and other purposes. The rescue also demonstrates the effectiveness of routine military patrols in intercepting escaped victims and disrupting criminal networks operating across state lines.
