The Angwan Durun-Uwa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State was thrown into panic and confusion on Thursday following the gruesome discovery of a headless female body dumped inside a sack at a refuse site. The decomposing body of the beheaded woman was discovered by some residents who had gone to dispose of waste at the dump site, sparking fear and outrage among community members.
A youth leader in the community, Gomex Iliya, confirmed the shocking finding to DAILY POST in a telephone interview. According to Iliya, the discovery was made when residents noticed a sack abandoned at the refuse dump. Upon closer inspection, they found the decomposing body of a young woman whose head had been severed. "We were woken up by an alarming and shocking discovery of the beheaded body of a woman at a dump site in Angwan Durun-Uwa," Iliya said. He added that one of his executive members called him to report that a body had been abandoned at the refuse site. "I immediately rushed down to the refuse site, where I also saw the headless body, which was tied in a sack. The body was already decomposing, which means it could have been dumped days earlier".
Another youth leader in Barkin Ladi, Danjuma Ibrahim, confirmed that he received a distress call at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday informing him that a body had been dumped at the refuse site. "I received a call at about 7 a.m. that a beheaded woman's body had been found inside a sack at the refuse dump in Angwan Durun-Uwa. We immediately alerted the police, who responded to the scene," Ibrahim said. The police responded promptly to the distress call and evacuated the body from the dump site. However, the decomposed state of the body made identification of the victim difficult.
Although the identity of the victim has not yet been established, residents of the community believe she might have been a victim of one of the attacks by bandits in the area. The discovery comes amid heightened security concerns in Plateau State, where communities have increasingly faced attacks from armed groups. In a related development, the headless body of a man was also discovered on a farmland at the permanent site of the University of Jos on Tuesday, just two days before the woman's body was found.
Ibrahim appealed to residents whose relatives are missing to report to the police, while urging security agencies to arrest those responsible for the dastardly act. Efforts to obtain confirmation from the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or reply to text messages. The investigation is ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and apprehend the perpetrators.
