The Nigeria Immigration Service has dismantled a transnational organised crime syndicate operating under the guise of the QNET/IGNITE network, arresting 12 suspects, including the alleged foreign kingpin, and rescuing two victims during coordinated intelligence-led operations across Lagos State. The operation, which was carried out following actionable intelligence on trafficking networks exploiting vulnerable individuals through deceptive employment and business opportunities, resulted in the arrest of Ouattra Adama, a Burkinabe national identified as the alleged leader of the syndicate, alongside 11 other suspected facilitators. The arrested suspects comprise eight Liberian nationals and three Cameroonians, according to a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Service Akinsola Akinlabi.
The NIS said the operation also led to the rescue of two Liberian nationals believed to be victims of the syndicate's fraudulent activities, who are currently receiving necessary attention from authorities. The suspects and the rescued victims have since been transferred to the Service Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation and necessary legal action. According to the Service, the QNET/IGNITE network is a transnational organised criminal group allegedly involved in fraudulent employment and business schemes used to facilitate irregular migration. The syndicate reportedly lured unsuspecting victims with false promises of lucrative employment, business opportunities and migration prospects, only to subject them to exploitation through fraudulent schemes.
The NIS warned Nigerians and other residents against falling victim to criminal networks that exploit the search for jobs, education opportunities, business ventures and migration pathways. It urged members of the public to always verify the authenticity of employment offers, business opportunities and migration arrangements through approved channels before committing funds or travelling abroad. The Service described the arrests as a major achievement in its intelligence-driven border security operations, reaffirming its commitment to combating human trafficking, irregular migration and other forms of transnational crime. "The arrest of the syndicate leader and other facilitators demonstrates Nigeria Immigration Service's commitment to intelligence-driven Border Management," the statement said, adding that the operation aligns with the Federal Government's renewed efforts to strengthen national security and protect citizens from exploitation.
The QNET network has repeatedly come under scrutiny in several countries over allegations that criminal syndicates exploit its name to lure unsuspecting job seekers and prospective migrants. Nigerian security agencies have, in recent years, intensified efforts to dismantle trafficking and irregular migration networks using similar recruitment schemes as part of broader measures to combat transnational organised crime. The NIS said investigations are ongoing to uncover additional members of the network, trace its wider operations and identify other possible victims across Nigeria. The successful operation underscores the Service's resolve to rid the country of all forms of irregular migration and transnational organised crimes, in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
