The Kaduna State Police Command has recorded a series of major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against insecurity, neutralising notorious kidnappers, arresting 16 suspected kidnappers, and dismantling a counterfeit currency syndicate during intelligence-led operations conducted across the state over the past two weeks. The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, disclosed these achievements on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Kaduna, where he detailed the recovery of 10 firearms of different calibres, 190 stolen solar inverters valued at N69 million, 10 lithium batteries worth approximately N9 million, 170 counterfeit US dollar notes, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma television sets, a stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle, and over 410 rustled cattle.
The operations also led to the arrest of three suspected gunrunners, six suspects linked to the counterfeit currency syndicate, and several other individuals connected to kidnapping, vehicle theft, and drug supply networks. Muhammad said the command neutralised notorious kidnappers and arrested 16 suspected kidnappers, six suspects found in possession of 170 pieces of counterfeit dollar notes, and three suspected gunrunners, recovering 10 firearms of different calibres and other exhibits during various operations. The commissioner said the operations underscored the command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks threatening the peace and security of the state.
One of the breakthroughs followed the arrest of a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Barau, in Ramin Kura Village while allegedly attempting to exchange counterfeit US dollar notes for naira on July 21, 2026. According to the police, the suspect confessed that the fake currency had been supplied by two men, Abdullahi Muhammad and Danbala Jibrin, leading to the arrest of other members of the syndicate. Further investigation led to the arrest of several other members of the syndicate, who will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. In another operation, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, tracked and arrested three suspected gunrunners in Jos, Plateau State, on July 25, 2026. The suspects, identified as Luka Samuel, 38, John Paul, 37, and Musa Elisha, 28, were arrested with two locally fabricated pistols. The suspects confessed to supplying arms and ammunition to bandits operating in different parts of the North and are assisting investigators to dismantle the network. In a further operation, police operatives, working with members of the Yan Sa Kai vigilante group after months of surveillance, arrested Abdullahi Mohammed, popularly known as “Aala,” at Kargi Village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kano State. The suspect confessed to masterminding several kidnapping operations in Kuzuntu Village and other parts of Kano, and also admitted participating in the killing of two Yan Sa Kai members during an attack carried out last year. An AK-47 rifle and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect. The command said the suspect, aged 34, confessed to being a mastermind behind several kidnappings in Kuzuntu Village, Ikara LGA, and parts of Kano State.
The command also recorded a breakthrough against vehicle theft after recovering a Toyota Sienna stolen from the premises of a Juma’at Mosque in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna. The vehicle was traced to Zaria, where one Mohammed Shehu was arrested, while his confession led to the arrest of another suspect, Zakari Abubakar, who allegedly specialised in fabricating duplicate vehicle keys used by car thieves. Police operatives also foiled a cattle rustling operation in Damanko Village, Zaria Local Government Area, recovering 80 cattle and 10 sheep after engaging the fleeing suspects in a gun duel. Two owners who sustained gunshot injuries are receiving treatment.
The police also recovered 190 solar inverters and 10 lithium batteries from a store in Zaria. Preliminary investigations indicated that the items were suspected to have been stolen from a container destined for Zaria during transit, while efforts were ongoing to identify those responsible, establish ownership of the recovered property and dismantle the criminal network involved. In another operation, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Alex Odoh and Daniel Eze over the alleged supply of hard drugs to bandits operating around Kasuwar Magani, recovering a large quantity of hard drugs worth millions of naira.
The Commissioner commended the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of the state. He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, stressing that security agencies were working jointly with the military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, vigilante groups and other stakeholders to make Kaduna safer for residents. Muhammad appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence, assuring that the command would sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property across Kaduna State.
