The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has criticised the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as an insensitive attack on its National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who is still mourning the loss of his mother.
In a statement signed by PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jonathan Amande, the party faulted APC’s spokesperson, Mr. Shittu Bamaiyi, accusing him of exploiting the situation for “reckless political aggrandizement” instead of showing respect to the bereaved.
The PDP also condemned APC’s reaction to the cordial working relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. Governor Mutfwang was among the governors who joined President Tinubu in Brazil for the signing of agricultural investment deals aimed at boosting Plateau’s economy.
According to the PDP, APC’s position reflects its inability to recover from the defeat of the 2023 general elections, stressing that the ruling party in Plateau is focused on governance and strengthening partnerships that will benefit the people.
“The leadership of our party will not be distracted,” the statement read, while reaffirming appreciation to President Tinubu for recognizing Governor Mutfwang’s efforts in advancing agricultural opportunities in the state.
The PDP further maintained that it would continue to support initiatives that uplift Plateau citizens, regardless of political affiliations, while urging the APC to embrace maturity in its opposition role.
Stone Reporters News gathered that the exchange has once again deepened political rivalry in Plateau State, where both major parties are keen to assert dominance ahead of future elections.
