PDP Condemns APC Over Comments Linking National Chairman Amid Mourning Period

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has strongly criticized remarks made by Mr. Shittu Bamaiyi, Publicity Secretary of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of politicizing the mourning period of the APC’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who recently lost his mother.

In a statement issued by Hon. Jonathan Amande, PDP Publicity Secretary in Plateau, the party described the comments as “reckless political aggrandizement” that showed “a lack of conscience and respect for the deceased.”

The PDP also accused the APC of bitterness towards the growing working relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who recently joined the President’s delegation to Brazil to secure agricultural investment deals for the state.

“Ordinarily, the PDP would not have responded to such shallow commentary, but we deem it necessary to set the record straight,” the statement read. “Governor Mutfwang’s presence in Brazil was at the official invitation of the President, recognizing Plateau’s agricultural potential under his administration.”

The PDP further noted that while it continues to mourn with the APC National Chairman over the death of his mother, the conduct of the APC in the state “exposes its disconnection from the electorate and lack of effective political strategy since the 2023 general elections.”

The party reaffirmed its commitment to governance without distractions and praised President Tinubu for acknowledging and working with Governor Mutfwang “towards the upliftment of Plateau State and its citizens.”
