The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, has unveiled a new state-of-the-art ICT and Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre in Onicha Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Governor described the project as a major step in preparing Delta youths for the fast-changing digital economy.
The facility, built by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and equipped by the Delta State Government through the Ministry of Science and Technology, houses 300 computer workstations, reliable solar power backup, generating sets, and modern ICT tools. It will serve as a hub for e-learning, innovation, digital literacy, and nationwide computer-based examinations.
Governor Oborevwori commended NDIC, former NDIC board member Ms. Diana Okonta, and former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for their roles in making the project a reality. He stressed that under the MORE Agenda, his administration is committed to providing opportunities for young people to acquire the knowledge and technical skills needed to become job creators and global competitors.
Traditional leaders, stakeholders, and community members also hailed the project, noting it as a milestone alongside other developments in Aniocha North such as the Issele-Asagba–Utulu Road, township roads in Onicha-Ugbo, and new facilities at the College of Nursing, Onicha-Uku.
Governor Oborevwori urged the community to safeguard the facility and maximise its use, calling it “a bridge to the future where no community is left behind.”
