
In a historic political move, more than 66 political leaders from various parties, along with hundreds of their supporters, officially joined the Labour Party yesterday at Obehie Central School, Ukwa West.
The defection included prominent figures such as former Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Ngozi Ulunwa, former SSG Chief Ralph Egbu, Hon. Adinigwe Ugochukwu Nwoke, Dr. Lucky Ejiogu, Hon. Uche Nwaele, and Ugoeze Young Ogbonna, among others. The event underscored a growing consensus around Governor Alex Otti as the preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
During the gathering, the people of Asa unanimously endorsed Governor Otti, who reiterated his commitment to improving the lives of Abians through investments in roads, schools, healthcare, economic empowerment, and infrastructure development.
The Mayor of Ukwa West, Pastor Dike Briggs Nwankwo, expressed appreciation for ongoing and completed projects in Asa land and appealed for the construction of a mini stadium. Responding promptly, Governor Otti approved the project, highlighting his responsive and people-focused leadership.
The event drew top dignitaries, including former Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, SSG Prof. Kenneth Kalu, Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources Prof. Ogbonna Joel, and several Mayors, showcasing a strong display of political unity.
Participants emphasized that Ukwa West is firmly aligned with Governor Otti and the Labour Party, signaling continued support not only for the upcoming elections but beyond 2027.
