APC Sweeps Rivers LG Elections, PDP Wins Three as Governor Fubara Loses LGA

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in 20 out of the 23 local government areas contested in Saturday’s Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Rivers State.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party in the state, managed to secure only three local government areas, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Opobo-Nkoro LGA, which was won by the APC.

Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr. Michael Odey, declared the results on Sunday afternoon at the commission’s headquarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

The outcome marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, as the APC’s landslide victory has reduced the PDP’s dominance in Rivers politics, particularly with the governor’s home base falling to the opposition.

Dr. Odey commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the polls, adding that the exercise demonstrated the commitment of Rivers people to grassroots democracy.

Political observers say the results could reshape alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, given the APC’s strong showing in the state once regarded as a PDP stronghold.
