
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), has officially sworn in the newly elected local government chairmen following the conclusion of the state’s recent local government elections.
According to results released by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) won 20 out of the 23 local government areas, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secured three chairmanship seats in Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt City, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni.
During the swearing-in ceremony, the Sole Administrator urged the newly inaugurated chairmen to prioritize good governance, transparency, and inclusive development in their local governments. He emphasized the need for grassroots engagement and urged officials to implement policies that address the socio-economic needs of their communities.
Several newly elected chairmen used the occasion to outline their immediate plans. They pledged to focus on improving local infrastructure, enhancing security, promoting youth empowerment programs, and ensuring efficient delivery of public services. In Obio/Akpor, the PDP chairman highlighted plans to invest in road rehabilitation and waste management, while in Port Harcourt City, emphasis was placed on bolstering healthcare and educational facilities.
The inauguration signals the official start of the new local government administrations, marking a crucial step toward accelerating development and strengthening governance at the grassroots level across Rivers State.
