In a landmark move to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have announced a strategic partnership to tackle economic sabotage and address the devastating impact of road traffic crashes (RTCs) on lives and the Nigerian economy.
Speaking during the engagement, EFCC Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede highlighted that both agencies interact directly with the Nigerian public in ways that influence safety, national growth, and citizens’ welfare. He stressed that beyond combating traditional economic crimes, the EFCC also tackles economic sabotage—particularly the negative financial impact of transport operators who flout regulations.
Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized the urgent need for coordinated action to curb reckless driving and reduce fatalities, noting that road safety is not only a transport concern but also a national security and economic priority.
This collaboration marks a bold declaration that unlawful transport practices and road-related carnage will no longer be tolerated. It represents a unified approach combining integrity, law enforcement, and public safety to protect lives, preserve national resources, and secure Nigeria’s future.
Stone Reporters News gathered that the partnership will lead to a tougher, more coordinated crackdown on economic crimes linked to the transport sector and a renewed offensive against the culture of impunity, sending a clear message that reckless endangerment of lives and economic sabotage will face the full weight of the law.
