Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has met with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, in Abuja to strengthen collaboration on key health initiatives.

At the heart of their discussion was the take-off of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Kumo, following the recent agreement signed between the Federal Government and Gombe State. Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep appreciation to the Minister for his leadership and commitment to transforming healthcare delivery across Nigeria.

“We are tired of a weak healthcare system, but with the little resources we have, we have made significant progress. Healthcare remains one of our top priorities, and we are committed to sustainable investments that will improve the well-being of our people,” the Governor said.

He also appealed for urgent intervention in upgrading the famous Snakebite Treatment and Research Hospital in Kaltungo, which has been grappling with equipment shortages despite serving as a critical centre for treating snakebite victims across the region. The Governor stressed that the rising cases of snakebite incidents, particularly affecting women, make it imperative to expand and modernize the facility to save lives.

While acknowledging the challenges, Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured that the state government would continue to support and cooperate fully with the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners to improve healthcare delivery in Gombe State.

In response, Minister Pate praised Governor Yahaya’s leadership and dedication to improving healthcare at both the community and state levels. He assured that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring FMC Kumo takes off smoothly and pledged renewed attention to strengthening the Kaltungo Snakebite Hospital as part of Nigeria’s wider health system improvements.
