The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with retired military officers as part of its strategy to strengthen security across the state. The assurance was given by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, when he received a delegation of military veterans led by Adamu Dantani during a courtesy visit to his office in Minna.

Welcoming the delegation, Alhaji Usman praised the veterans for their years of patriotic service to the nation and commended their renewed determination to contribute to the security and development of Niger State. He urged them to remain united and organized, noting that their collective experience and discipline represent an invaluable asset in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity.

The SSG emphasized that the administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago places top priority on the safety and wellbeing of its people and is open to meaningful collaborations with all stakeholders, including retired officers. He suggested that the veterans align themselves with existing paramilitary groups and security outfits in Niger State, thereby enhancing operational effectiveness through their expertise and training.

Alhaji Usman further assured that Governor Bago would be briefed on the veterans’ proposals, with a view to identifying areas where government and the retired officers can work together to secure communities and promote stability.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Adamu Dantani, expressed the loyalty of the veterans to the state and pledged their readiness to support government initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property. He said the retired officers are committed not only to contributing to security but also to advancing development efforts in Niger State.

The meeting is widely seen as another step in Governor Bago’s broader agenda of inclusive governance, where all segments of society — including those who once served in uniform — play a role in building a more secure and prosperous state.
